War is the way to peace	Der Krieg ist der Weg zum Frieden
Progress knows the rhythm of work and rest, hunger and satiation, success and failure. Mistakes also serve progress, but only when the individual gains knowledge from them and puts it into practice. War and peace are never com- parable, vitally necessary rhythms. War basically destroys everything: The life of millions of people, with which it is equivalent to murder, just as when a tourist is killed somewhere out of greed for money. War leaves a multitude of mutil- ated people in its wake and with the present-day warfare also millions of people who will waste away from radiation injuries and give birth to children with de- formities for many generations to come. All these things will not only be directly involved in unleashing the Third World War but will also anger those of us who did too little to prevent it.	Der Fortschritt kennt den Rhythmus von Arbeit und Ruhe, Hunger und Sättigung, Erfolg und Misserfolg. Auch Fehler dienen dem Fortschritt, aber nur, wenn der einzelne Erkenntnisse daraus gewinnt und diese umsetzt. Krieg und Frieden sind niemals vergleichbare lebensnotwendige Rhythmen. Der Krieg zerstört grundsätzlich alles: Das Leben von Millionen von Menschen, wobei es sich genauso um Mord handelt, wie wenn irgendwo aus Geldgier ein Tourist umgebracht wird. Der Krieg hinterlässt ein Vielfaches an Verstümmelten und bei der heutigen Kriegsführung Millionen von Menschen, die unter Strahlungsschäden dahinsiechen werden, sowie Missgeburten auf viele Generationen hinaus. Diese alle werden nicht nur den direkten Auslösern des Dritten Weltkrieges, sondern auch uns grollen, die wir zu wenig getan haben, um ihn zu verhindern.
Furthermore, anger and desires for revenge remain after war and are passed on from generation to generation. Hatred is often fomented anew for the purpose of vengeance. Whoever travelled through France and Great Britain in the dec- ades following World War II could not help but to experience how the hatred, that arose in the war, was unleashed on the young Germans who were victims of the war themselves. Not only the Nazis were found to be guilty but rightly so all those who fell prey to the election propaganda and who allowed their felonious government to do as it pleased for years. Out of respect for the victims of the war, many of the French and English refused to accommodate German guests, and some of them still abide by this up to this day. After that kind of experience, all sensibly thinking Germans today are firmly against the Third World War. They say to themselves: In the First World War, grandfather served the Kaiser, and in the Second World War, father served the Führer, but I have shown my children a better way.	Zudem bleiben Wut und Rachebedürfnisse zurück, die von Generation zu Ge- neration weitergegeben werden. Oftmals schürt man den Hass zum Zweck von Rachefeldzügen erneut. Wer in den Jahrzehnten nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg Frankreich und Grossbritannien bereiste, musste erleben, wie der Hass, der im Krieg entstand, sich auch auf die jungen Deutschen ergoss, die selbst Opfer des Krieges waren. Als schuldig empfand man nicht nur die Nazis, sondern richtiger- weise alle, die der Wahlpropaganda erlegen sind und die ihre verbrecherische Regierung jahrelang gewähren liessen. Schon aus Respekt vor den Opfern des Krieges gewährten viele Franzosen und Engländer keinem Deutschen eine gast- liche Aufnahme, und einige halten noch bis heute daran fest. Nach derartigen Erlebnissen ist jeder vernünftig denkende Deutsche heute entschieden gegen den Dritten Weltkrieg. Sie sagen sich: Im Ersten Weltkrieg diente der Gross- vater dem Kaiser, im Zweiten der Vater dem Führer, aber meinen Kindern habe ich Besseres gezeigt.
Every single European citizen, both male and female, cannot get around doing a whole lot more, so that their governments do not fall for the wishes of war- mongering nations and their own people do not become victims against their will. More than any other country, Switzerland, with its still existing democratic rights of codetermination, would have many possibilities, indeed the greatest chance worldwide, to contribute to an honest solution. The upcoming vote on May 18, 2003 on the new NATO-oriented military law would set a signal for the entire world. It is perhaps a last opportunity to emphasise that the people, des- pite the questionable UN vote, know that they can do more for the world with neutrality than with intervention in foreign quarrels. One should also bear in mind that the ceasefire following a war is by no means equivalent to peace. It is always the beginning of a peaceless period and carries the seeds of the next war within it. Only when endeavours for true peace have been made over generations can something new finally grow.	Jeder einzelne europäische Bürger und jede Bürgerin kommt nicht darum herum, noch sehr viel zu unternehmen, damit ihre Regierungen nicht auf die Wünsche der kriegstreibenden Nationen hereinfallen und das eigene Volk wider Willen zum Opfer wird. Vor allem hätte die Schweiz mit ihren noch bestehen- den demokratischen Mitbestimmungsrechten viele Möglichkeiten, ja sogar weltweit die grösste Chance, zu einer ehrlichen Lösung etwas beizutragen. Die kommende Abstimmung vom 18. Mai 2003 zum neuen NATO-orientierten Militärgesetz würde Signalwirkung auf der ganzen Erde haben. Sie ist vielleicht eine letzte Gelegenheit, um zu betonen, dass das Volk trotz der fragwürdigen UNO-Abstimmung weiss, dass es mit der Neutralität mehr für die Welt tun kann als mit der Einmischung in fremde Händel. Weiter ist daran zu denken, dass der Waffenstillstand nach einem Krieg jeweils keineswegs Frieden bedeutet. Er ist immer der Beginn einer friedlosen Zeit und trägt den Kern des nächsten Krieges in sich. Erst wenn über Generationen hin- weg für den wahren Frieden gearbeitet wird, kann etwas Neues wachsen.

Every nation that plunders the resources of its own soil for decades, overbuilds its land with too many houses, streets and industrial plants, and out of feigned humanity, which is ultimately might politics and greed for profit, summons more people into its land than it can nourish from its own soil, begins to rob other nations. For a while, the exploitation is disguised each time by offering a trade deal, that is profitable for both sides, to a developing country. Field labourers in third world countries are taken in by the fact that they are now able to drink Coca-Cola whenever they please and may take part in international progress through daily television consumption. They are temporarily blind to the fact that they not only lose their land and their healthy work but also forfeit the psychic values which could lead to their own evolution. The aggressor nation, however, that abandons itself to waste, will run into ex- orbitant debt over time despite trade advantages. A country that is bankrupt can no longer be governed, and the heads of state hope they can save them- selves with a war. Even if a victory were possible, only a heap of fragments would be left on both sides, for as long as wastefulness continues to be passed off as pleasant economic growth, immense resources on other continents are also useless. A good example of this is Great Britain. This country was a heroic victor after the Second World War. To this day, however, it has never regained the prosper- ity it once enjoyed before the war, because it has never been able to recover from the burden of war debts.	Jede Nation, die über Jahrzehnte die Ressourcen ihres eigenen Bodens plündert, das Land zu sehr mit Häusern, Strassen und Industrieanlagen überbaut, dazu aus vorgetäuschter Humanität, die letztlich Machtpolitik und Gewinnsucht ist, mehr Menschen ins Land ruft, als dieses vom eigenen Boden ernähren kann, beginnt andere Nationen zu berauben. Vorerst wird die Ausbeutung jeweils da- mit getarnt, dass einem Entwicklungsland ein für beide Seiten gewinnbringen- der Handel angeboten wird. Die Feldarbeiter in Drittweltstaaten werden damit betört, dass sie nun nach Belieben Coca-Cola trinken können und mit dem täg- lichen Fernseh-Konsum am internationalen Fortschritt teilhaben dürfen. Sie sind vorerst blind dafür, dass sie nicht nur ihren Boden verlieren und die gesunde Arbeit einbüssen, sondern dass sie auch die psychischen Werte verscherzen, die zu ihrer eigenen Evolution führen könnten. Die Angreifer-Nation aber, die sich der Verschwendung hingibt, wird trotz Han- delsvorteilen mit der Zeit in masslose Schulden geraten. Ein Land im Konkurs ist nicht mehr zu regieren und die Staatschefs hoffen, sich mit einem Krieg retten zu können. Selbst wenn es zu einem Sieg käme, bliebe auf beiden Seiten ein Scherbenhaufen übrig, denn solange sich die Verschwendungssucht immer noch als erfreuliches Wirtschaftswachstum ausgibt, nützen auch gewaltige Ressourcen auf anderen Kontinenten nichts. Als Beispiel diene Grossbritannien. Dieses Land stand nach dem Zweiten Welt- krieg als heldenhafter Sieger da. Bis heute hat dieses Land den Wohlstand nicht erreicht, der ihm vor dem Krieg vergönnt gewesen ist, weil es sich von der Belastung durch die Kriegsschulden nicht mehr erholen konnte.
