Well, respectively is not the right way to translate "resp.", because in the English language respectively means "each separately in the order mentioned", while the German resp. most often restates the previous point in a different or more precise view.
There are several other phrases which I could have used like: "or rather", "(or) more precisely", "namely", "that is", "i.e.", etc.
Viz., which is a contraction from videlicet is something I learned about recently and can be read about here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viz.
I think that it is very close if not the same as the German "resp.".
One other thing which it not 100% correct in this translation is "animals and other creatures". The German term Getier was translated as creatures since there is no better term but there is a slight difference. Creatures may also refer to human beings, while Getier does not. It was translated the same in the GoT, but it leaves small gaps in the logic, which are in the relentless original not present.
But there are some other small things in this translation which I already asked Mariann for correctness.

Hey, I asked Mariann Mondria Uehlinger about one of the sentences, because I thought that I didn't understand it properly. At first she replied that there seems to be something wrong with the sentence and that she will ask Billy.
Then she sent me an e-mail which basically states that Billy said that the sentence in the original text is missing a word. Looks like it wasn't completely relentless as I thought. Could have been that Billy made a mistake. He looked very human to me.
Here is Mariann's e-mail:
Habe heute nachmittag Billy gefragt weil mir der Satz wie bereits vorgängig geschrieben unlogisch schien. Billy bestätigte, dass ein Wort fehle, nämlich "keine". Der Satz heisst dann demzufolge richtig:
Und Gott, so glaubt der Gläubige, verhindere, dass er im Leben keine Sicherheit habe und sich nicht wie eine treibende Feder im Wind fühle.
And God, so the believer believes, would prevent that he (the believer) would have no security in life and that he wouldn’t feel like a drifting feather in the wind.
Bezüglich "drifting" bin ich mir nicht sicher, aber propelling ist meines Erachtens falsch, das hört sich eher wie Propeller an, oder wie drehende Rotorblätter eines Helikopters. Würdest du diese Korrekturen bitte im Forum veröffentlichen, so dass diejenige Person, die das übersetzt hat, die entsprechenden Korrekturen anbringt? Wäre lieb von Dir.

Viz., which is a contraction from videlicet is something I learned about recently and can be read about here:

I think that it is very close if not the same as the German "resp.".
One other thing which it not 100% correct in this translation is "animals and other creatures". But there are some other small things in this translation which I already asked Mariann for correctness.

Then she sent me an e-mail which basically states that Billy said that the sentence in the original text is missing a word. Looks like it wasn't completely relentless as I thought. Could have been that Billy made a mistake. He looked very human to me.
Here is Mariann's e-mail:

Würdest du diese Korrekturen bitte im Forum veröffentlichen, so dass diejenige Person, die das übersetzt hat, die entsprechenden Korrekturen anbringt? Wäre lieb von Dir.
Salome Mariann
I will make the proper adjustments in the text.
